If you’re in the market for a new hair dryer, the worst thing you can do is buy the first one that comes to mind. The market is flooded with generic, poorly built products that you shouldn’t concern yourself with.

Chances are that you can get a real, tangible upgrade. Think about it – we use hair dryers every day. Doing a bit of research and choosing a high-quality product that will last pays off. Thankfully, we’ve covered the research side of things – all that’s left for you to do is decide which one of these hair dryers suits your needs the best.

Best Hair Dryers

A bad hair day equals a bad day, full stop. At times, it can seem like our hair actually enjoys tormenting us and making life difficult. None of us enjoy a gust of hot air to the head, but it’s an inescapable fact of everyday life.

But all of these issues can be alleviated by a good hair dryer. Giving your next purchase some consideration can make your life easier. We’ve compiled a list of 5 hair dryers, all of which are radically different – save for their quality.

So, what were our criteria? We looked at power, build quality, size and weight, special features, heat and speed settings, and versatility, with a healthy dose of respect for innovative technologies.

Of course, we also figured price into the equation. All of our picks are reasonably priced products for regular, reasonable people. You won’t have to shell out plenty of money for some luxurious, triple-digit price tag…hair dryer. So, without further ado, let’s dive in?

1. Best All-Around - Trezoro 9300

  • Power → 2200 Watts
  • Voltage → 100 – 125 V
  • Cord Length → 8.8 ft
  • Weight → 1.5 lb

Key Features:

  • Ionic system for preserving moisture
  • Cold shot setting
  • Ceramic Tourmaline technology
  • 3 heat settings and 2 speed settings

Trezoro 9300 Review

The Trezoro 9300 wouldn’t feel out of place in the hands of a professional hairstylist in a premium salon. It’s an outstanding all-rounder, with plenty of amazing features.

Every square inch of the 9300 looks the part of a premium product. It’s beautifully designed, and the black body and rose gold highlights immediately inspire confidence. The silky matte finish is soft to the touch, while the overall design is ergonomic and easy to use. It looks like a million bucks – but thankfully, it costs far less.

Lot of Settings and Speeds

This hair dryer has 3 heat settings and 2 speed settings, as well as a cold shot button. The long, curved non-slip handle is very user-friendly. A hang loop at the end of the handle makes for easy storage. At the same time, the removable rear filter ensures easy cleaning and extended product longevity.

To further sweeten the deal, two concentrator nozzle attachments are included with each purchase.

It boasts an impressive cord length of almost 9 feet. We can’t even conceive of a situation where you would need more than that. This is a durable, heavy-duty cord that doesn’t get tangled up easily. A velcro strap is also included to allow for proper storage.

Very Portable & Light

Trezoro’s flagship product is surprisingly light for its size. This is all the more impressive when you factor in how powerful the 9300 is – the 2200W DC motor, which runs at 23 000 revolutions per minute packs some serious firepower. It can meet the needs of even the most rigorous of perfectionists and can adapt to all types of hair.

But despite all that power, it has another unexpected quality – it’s remarkably quiet, contrary to what you might expect from such a forceful dryer.

Built In Ion Generator for Faster Drying

Now let’s move on to the state-of-the-art technologies that are housed within this product. The built-in ion generator is one of the key features and main selling points of the 9300. This technology uses negative ions to remove static and break up water molecules. It helps your hair remain frizz-free and beautiful after drying.

The effects of ionic technology are complemented by the ceramic tourmaline used in the 9300’s construction. This material ensures even heating that will preserve your hair’s natural shine and moisture.

Tourmaline also produces additional negative ions on its own when exposed to heat. In conjunction, these two technologies will safeguard your hair’s health and luster by preventing unnecessary heat damage.

However, the 9300 is not without its faults. The buttons aren’t placed all that well, and it’s all too easy to accidentally turn the hair dryer off, change the temperature, or press the cold shot button by mistake. The cold shot setting itself could stand to be, well, colder.

As we’ve mentioned, the cord is extremely long and durable – which means it’s also quite heavy. Ergonomics aside, long drying sessions can become taxing after a while.

But these minor faults don’t detract too much from our overall impressions. If you end up choosing the Trezoro 9300, you will get a fantastic all-rounder at a very reasonable asking price.

  • Great build quality
  • Fair price point
  • Very powerful
  • Varied settings
  • Awkwardly placed cold shot button
  • Could benefit from a diffuser

2. Best Discount - Revlon Essentials Quick Dry

  • Power → 1875 Watts
  • Voltage → 110 – 125 V
  • Cord Length → 5.8 ft
  • Weight → 1.4 lb

Key Features:

  • Lightweight
  • Cold shot feature
  • Includes a concentrator
  • 3 speed settings

Revlon Essentials Quick Dry Review

As we’ve mentioned, most people don’t put too much importance on their choice of a hair dryer. If you’re one of those people – we totally understand. If you’re working with a budget, or simply don’t have any special requirements, you can still get a far better deal than you usually would by digging around a bit.

One of the products that fit the bill of cheap yet well built, sturdy, and reliable is the Revlon Essentials Quick Dry.  It’s even more affordable than the tiny travel model we’ll cover later on in the article. If you need a no-nonsense, simple product that gets the job done, the Revlon merits your consideration.

Extremely Light But Durable

It’s made from durable, lightweight plastic. Weighing in at just 1.4 lb, you’d be tempted to think that it’s flimsy or cheaply made. And you’d be wrong. The material is surprisingly sturdy, and as an added bonus, it’s pretty resistant to overheating.

The handle is slightly shorter than you would expect. Overall, it’s quite user-friendly, except for the poorly placed cold shot button, an issue that the industry at large seems to be struggling with. The handle isn’t made from non-slip materials, but it includes non-slip bumpers to make up for this fact.

The rear end cap is removable, facilitating easier cleaning. The cord length of the Revlon Essentials Quick Dry is a decent 5.8 ft. There is a hang loop at the end of it, which makes storage easier.

One thing we like about the Revlon is the included concentrator attachment. For such an affordable product, this adds a lot of value. On the other hand, it’s not compatible with diffusers, so there is a bit of a trade-off there.

On the more technical side of things, 1875W is a lot of power for an entry-level product. It can dry your hair off faster than you would expect. The nozzle has a 2-inch diameter, and is 4.25 inches long – the force of the air that it projects is decent. But there are a few caveats to mention.

No Heat Settings, Only Speed

The most important of these are the heat and speed settings, which are linked. To be precise, there are no separate heat settings – revving up the speed is the only way to increase heat.

And while we do appreciate models with 3 speed settings, this is a bit of a bare-bones approach, which can make styling a bit more difficult. The cold shot feature is great, but it can’t make up for the lack of different heat settings.

So, when all is said and done, how does the Revlon Essentials Quick Dry hold up? It can’t hold a handle to the rest of the products in the list – but it reigns supreme in its price range. It is by far the best hair dryer at such a discount price. It’s a durable, reliable, simple product that will get the job done.

  • Extremely affordable
  • Fairly light
  • Powerful
  • Long-lasting
  • Doesn’t have separate heat settings
  • Incompatible with diffusers

3. Most Versatile - Jinri Professional

  • Power → 1875 Watts
  • Voltage → 110 V
  • Cord Length → 8.7 ft
  • Weight → 1.65 lb

Key Features:

  • Far infrared heat
  • Ionic technology
  • 3 heat settings
  • 2 speed settings

Jinri Professional Review

Looking for a versatile hair dryer that is compatible with various attachments? The Jinri Professional might just be the right product for you. It’s extremely adaptable and can meet even the most varied needs.

Whether you’re looking to minimize heat damage and frizzing, or to add volume to curly hair, diffusers are an important tool at your disposal. Diffusers ensure even distribution of heat and are a godsend for maintaining your hair’s natural texture.

It is precisely because of how well the Jinri Professional works with the included diffuser that we decided to give it a spot on this list. Just like the Trezoro 9300, this product also performs admirably overall – but it is unmatched with regard to attachments and versatility.

Great Build Quality

The first impression that you get from this product is how unexpectedly light it is. Nonetheless, when you pick it up, it feels quite sturdy.  It’s made from high-quality, durable non-slip materials, and has a sleek black matte finish.

The rear air filter is removable, which is always a plus. Jinri’s product has a slight edge over the Trezoro 9300 when it comes to ergonomics, as the button placement is much more sensible, fitting in well with the grip design. The Jinri Professional has 2 speed settings, 3 heat settings including a cold air mode, and a separate cold shot button.

And like the Trezoro, it has lots of cord length to spare. Measuring in at 8.7 ft, the cord is also equipped with a hang loop and an ALCI safety plug. A cable tie is included with each purchase, which makes storing a product with such a long cord a little less of a hassle.

Impressive Features

Now let’s move on to the performance side of things. This is a powerful hair dryer – the durable AC motor clocks in at an impressive 1875W. It packs a punch without being too loud, and the amount of power is well suited to the size and weight of the product, making it easy to use.

The Jinri Professional makes use of negative ions to help reduce frizziness. This pairs well with far infrared heat technology, which preserves hair’s natural moisture. The end result is quicker, efficient, even heating which reduces heat damage.

Attachments & Versatility

And while we’re on the topic of heat damage, let’s go over the attachments which are included with this product. The Jinri Professional comes with a concentrator, diffuser, and comb/styling pick.

The concentrator provides a larger degree of control for drying a styling. It is used to focus the airflow of the dryer on a specific spot. As an added bonus, the narrower end of a concentrator increases pressure, making it a great tool for straightening hair.

Diffusers redistribute heat over a wider area. This particular diffuser performs admirably and is easy to attach. It’s a bit on the larger side, so it might take some getting used to. Diffusers are a great tool for styling wavy and curly hair, but everyone should consider using this type of attachment to prevent heat damage.

Lastly, the comb or styling pick can be used to stretch out curls or untangle your tresses after washing. The comb included with this product has quite long prongs, so it can easily work with longer hair while still keeping it safe from excessive heat.

This might be the most versatile hair dryer we’ve ever seen. If you’re looking for a product that pairs well with a diffuser, you needn’t look further. Put simply, it goes above and beyond what is standard – and can help you achieve any styling goal.

  • Incredibly versatile
  • Comes with 3 attachments
  • Powerful
  • Easy to use
  • Could use a medium speed setting
  • Non-retractable cord

4. Best For Travel - Conair Vagabond

  • Power → 1600 Watts
  • Voltage → 120 V  / 240 V
  • Cord Length → 5 ft
  • Weight → 12.8 ounces

Key Features:

  • Dual voltage
  • Folding handle
  • 2 settings each for heat and speed
  • Perfect travel size

Conair Vagabond Review

If you’re after a hair dryer that is designed with traveling in mind, look no further than the Conair Vagabond. It packs a punch but manages to do so without sacrificing portability. It’s a perfect choice for anyone that travels often.

This diminutive hair dryer is available at a very reasonable price point, making it quite a worthwhile investment. Even those of us that always overpack won’t struggle with finding enough space for the Vagabond. You can’t put a price tag on never again having to deal with hotel hair dryers.

Light & Adaptive

The Vagabond is incredibly light, weighing in at just under a pound. The folding handle makes it incredibly easy to pack or store, so there’s no need to be space-conscious with this hair dryer. At the same time, the five-foot-long cord ensures that you can easily dry off your locks, no matter where you are. You won’t have to awkwardly lean or bend forward with the Vagabond.

And when we say you can dry off no matter where you are, we mean it. The Vagabond’s best feature, by far, is the dual voltage system. It functions with both 120v and 240v outlets, meaning that it can be used in the US, Europe, and large parts of Asia.

There is one important caveat here – power outlets differ in shape across the world, hence you will need to use this product in conjunction with an outlet adapter. But overall, this small footnote does not take away from the Vagabond’s enviable adaptability.

Impressive Performance

The Vagabond brings the heat (quite literally) despite its small size. As it was with David and Goliath, the tiny Vagabond can go toe to toe with, and often outdo, its larger competitors. It boasts a sizeable 1600W power rating, which is more than enough for most needs.

Those with close-cropped cuts won’t run into any issues whatsoever, and can comfortably stick with the low setting. The Vagabond can even handle shoulder-length or slightly longer thick hair when used on high.

Points to Consider

But, like with all small and portable hair dryers, drying off lengthy hair can prove challenging and time-consuming. The Vagabond can handle even the lengthiest of manes, but they will give it a run for its money.

It should also be noted that, due to its small size, this hair dryer can easily become very hot during prolonged and intensive use. It will take a fair amount of time to dry off long hair with the Vagabond – so make sure to factor that into your plans and appointments.

When all is said and done, we’re thoroughly impressed – even blown away by the specs and performance of this tiny product. It fills the travel hair dryer niche superbly.

The importance of a good hair dryer when traveling can’t be overstated. Whether you’re enjoying a relaxing vacation in an exotic location or taking part in an important business trip, appearances, as well as hygiene, matter. You shouldn’t have to sacrifice confidence or comfort when traveling.

The Vagabond offers a reliable, convenient, and affordable solution to such problems… just don’t forget that outlet adapter.

  • Compact and portable
  • Affordable, great value
  • Adaptable
  • Lightweight
  • No cool setting
  • Short nozzle

5. Best Hair Dryer Brush - Revlon One-Step

  • Power → 1100 Watts
  • Voltage → 120 V
  • Cord Length → 6 ft
  • Weight → 1.8 lb

Key Features:

  • Ceramic coating
  • Ionic technology
  • Unique airflow vents
  • Ergonomic oval design

Revlon’s two-in-one product took the hair care world by storm. And for good reason – it can save you a lot of time, without compromising results. Using a single product to both dry and style your hair is incredibly convenient.

Excellent Design & Ergonomics

This two-in-one product might seem intimidating at first glance. The long black bristles with colored tips, along with the wavy air vents and smooth oval shape give it a futuristic air.

It’s slightly larger than you’d expect, but this is offset by the great ergonomics. The handle is comfortable to hold, which makes it easy to maneuver with. The 1.8-pound weight of the product fits well with the rest of the design, as there is no need for quick movements. The 6 ft long tangle-free swivel cord is built to last and features an ALCI safety plug.

The oval shape of the brush head allows the bristles to reach closer to the roots of your hair for maximum effect. The nylon pin, tufted combination bristles grip your hair gently but firmly, making short work of any tangles. The rounded edges of the bristles ensure maximum hair volume.

The tip of the Revlon One-Step is heat resistant, making the product easier to use and safer for your hair. The body of the dryer has a ceramic coating that ensures even distribution of heat, while the unique airflow vents, which stretch out between the bristles, guarantee quick and thorough drying.

Powerful & Innovative

Revlon’s product also makes use of ionic technology. As mentioned before, negative ions reduce static, which helps prevent frizziness.

For a product that gets so up close and personal with your hair, it’s quite powerful. At the distance that it is used, 1110W is no joke. It gets the job done remarkably well, but you should start with the low setting and work your way up. We recommend using a heat-protecting hair product whenever you style hair.

And while we’re on the topic of heat settings, let’s address one of the Revlon One-Step’s few flaws. The heat and speed settings are linked. Cool, low, and high regulate both speed and heat.

The ratio of speed to heat is sensible with all three settings, but we would have preferred a bit more versatility. Additionally, the cool setting isn’t really cool, but rather lukewarm. A cold shot button could have also been a great addition to this product.

So, what’s our final verdict? The Revlon One-Step combines the value of two great products into a well-built, powerful package. It’s easy to use, and it can make your hair care routine much simpler. The few gripes that we do have with the One-Step are easily forgiven. It is the best hair dryer of its type, and if it ends up being your choice, you will have no regrets.

  • Incredibly convenient
  • Powerful
  • Ergonomic
  • Great for thick hair
  • Linked heat/speed settings
  • No cold shot setting

Frequently Asked Questions: Best Hair Dryers

Do hair dryers damage your hair?

Hair dryers can damage your hair when used improperly. You shouldn’t focus heat for too long on one spot. If your hair dryer is malfunctioning it will start giving off an unpleasant smell similar to burning rubber. If you notice such a smell, discard the product.

Are expensive hair dryers worth the price?

That depends on your definition of expensive. Generic products aren’t built to last and are often made from cheap materials. We’ve included reasonably priced products which are worthwhile investments that pay off.

Are ionic or ceramic hair dryers better?

Ionic and ceramic hair dryers offer different benefits. These aren’t competing technologies - many products incorporate both of them. Overall, a product with either of these features will perform better than one which does not have them.

As for choosing between the two, it depends on your needs. If you have fine or thin hair, a ceramic hair dryer is the better choice. Ionic technology is a better fit for thick, curly hair.

Can I use a US hair dryer in Europe or abroad?

You can, but there’s a catch. If you have a hair dryer with an appropriate dual voltage feature, you only need to bring an outlet adapter. If your hair dryer is a single voltage model, you can still use it abroad - but you will need a voltage converter as well as an outlet adapter. Outlet shapes and voltages vary across the world - make sure to do your research ahead of time.

Does tourmaline make a difference when drying hair?

Tourmaline emits negative ions that reduce static and frizz. It also protects the natural moisture of your hair by emitting far infrared heat. It does make a difference and is a feature that you should consider before making your purchase.

Are hair dryer brushes bad for your hair?

No - hair dryer brushes are safe to use and less damaging than flat iron hair straighteners. They ensure easier styling, massage your scalp to increase circulation, and using air with negative ions instead of hot metal is much less rough on your hair.
