Best Android Tablets of 2019 – Price/Features Compared

When we need a highly portable device that’s able to pack a lot of power into a very small frame, we think of tablets. The android OS is something that a lot of users prefer to iOS tablets, but it’s mainly a matter of personal preference. There are plenty of android tablets to choose from, and below we’ve listed some of the best on the market.

What to Keep an Eye out for

If you’re in the market for an android tablet, there are a few things to keep an eye out for in your perfect tablet. It all starts with what you need. If you love to take pictures, then set a minimum number of megapixels that you need and stick to it. Other considerations include speed (look at CPU), how it looks, battery life and screen size. We’ll be covering the best tablets on the market below, so undoubtedly at least one or two of them will suit what you need.

1. Samsung S5e

When it comes to technology, Samsung are well known for providing high quality products. This is even truer for portable devices, where Samsung is an industry leader with few competitors on the same level. The S5e is something special with an octa-core processor and 14.5 hours of video playing worth of battery-life. This is definitely a high performance tablet, but the camera may not suit the photography lovers among us. Being available in black, gold and silver, the S5e is definitely lovely to look at.

There’s definitely a lot of value in the S5e in terms of performance, even with quite a large price-tag. Samsung has always been known for high-quality products, not budget-friendliness. It’s astoundingly thin, which helps keep it lovely and light for easy handling no matter what you’re using it for. Its high resolution and beautiful Super AMOLED screen which is great for contrasting colours and crisp detail. With the advancements in games for android devices, the S5e is in a prime position to take advantage of the advances in game performance and graphics.

2. Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet

Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet

Average User Rating: 2 Stars

Price: $149.99

YouTube Review:

(this is an independent Youtube review and does not represent our views in any way)

At present only the 32GB models are available as new, so the price shown is for the 32GB model. This tablet is definitely as budget-friendly as it gets for a brand new tablet with just enough specs to be able to comfortably run the likes of Netflix and Prime Video. If you enjoy playing any games that require more than a couple GB of RAM, then you’re out of luck. Even games that have a minimum requirement for 2GB cause issues for Fire HD 10 users.

Specs:

Below is a basic specifications guide that includes some key info.

Display:

  • (Screen Size) 10.1 inches
  • (Display) 1080p
  • Pixel Density: 171ppi (in-plane switching)

Camera info:

  • Front Camera: VGA
  • Rear Camera: 2MP
  • Camera Sample:

App Performance:

  • CPU RAM: Quad-core 1.3GHz with 1GB RAM
  • CPU benchmark scores: 1191 single core
  • (RAM) 2GB
  • (Storage) 32GB-64GB

Battery: 8hrs mixed use battery life

  • 6hr charge time with official wire, 3rd party cables may vary.

Aesthetics:

  • Colours: Black / marine blue / punch red / canary yellow
  • Weight:295g

Features:

  • Includes accelerometer
  • Ports: Micro-USB Charger port
  • No 4G – No GPS
  • Hands-free Alexa for easy control of other Alexa enabled devices
  • Quad-core processor provides useful power for general internet browsing
  • One of the cheapest mid-range tablets on the market
  • Incapable of handling high-end games or poorly coded video players
  • Very poor quality cameras, with higher megapixels last decade
  • Expandable by MicroSD (Supports up to 256GB)

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is very unique. It’s not often to see a tablet that’s intentionally designed to be budget-friendly on release. It’s a great device for streaming through Prime Video or Netflix and can do so in 1080p. It’s also easily capable of general internet browsing, consuming e-books or audiobooks and using social media. On the other hand its ability to deal with power-hungry video players and higher performing games is pretty terrible, with the biggest hamstring being the 2GB RAM. The good news is that if you’re a big Amazon and Alexa fan, you can control your Alexa compatible devices with the Fire HD 10 completely hands-free.

3. ASUS ZenPad 3S 10

ASUS ZenPad 3S 10

Average User Rating: 4.5 Stars

Price: $299.99

YouTube Review:

(this is an independent Youtube review and does not represent our views in any way)

Released in 2016, the Zenpad 3S 10 is still a remarkably well performing tablet. Because it was released 3 years ago, it’s a lot tougher and more expensive to procure a completely new Zenpad 3S. The good news is that Amazon Renewed allows you to purchase refurbished ones at a much cheaper price. Plus, Amazon Renewed goes to great lengths to ensure that the products look as close to brand new as possible. With exacting standards being set out for all internal parts, any that don’t meet them are replaced with new ones of the same specs before being shipped out. Some accessories may be generic, but perform exactly like originals.

The Zenpad 3S is a fantastic product, with intense beauty that doesn’t sacrifice a single ounce of performance with both software and graphics. The best part is that the renewed versions of the Zenpad 3S are just under $300, which for the specs involved is very reasonable.

Specs:

Below is a basic specifications guide that includes some key info.

Display:

  • 2K resolution
  • Screen size: 9.7” IPS display
  • Display: 2048 x 1536 (4 Megapixels)
  • 178degree viewing angle
  • 78% screen to body ratio
  • Up to 200% contrast level with enhanced contrast analysis

Camera info:

  • 8MP PixelMaster
  • 0 shutter lag
  • 400% low light mode
  • App Performance/CPU/GPU/Benchmark:
  • Hexa-core CPU
  • GX6250 IMG GPU
  • Camera Sample:

Battery rating/ charging time/draining time:

  • 5900mAh battery
  • Quick charge 3.0 technology

Aesthetics/colour/design/structure etc:

  • Metallic texture
  • 5.8mm thick
  • 0.08mm diamond-cut bevelled edges
  • Weight: 430g

Features:

  • Tru2Life technology
  • Bluelight filter
  • VisualMaster technology
  • Gorilla Glass for high levels of damage resistance
  • Hexa-core with 4GB RAM for high levels of gaming performance and astonishing speed
  • Beautiful audio, especially for a tablet
  •  5MP front camera can take amazingly detailed selfies
  • 8MP rear camera will be a big hit with photography fans

Although finding a brand new Zenpad 3S 10 is difficult, a renewed one that comes with a 90 day warranty and included Amazon tech support is just as good. The damage resistance from the strong materials it’s made of give a lot more confidence to a renewed Zenpad 3S 10. Although it has some pretty great specs, it hasn’t got the highest performance specs available right now. It’s to be expected with any high-end tablet that was release 3 years ago.

4. Huawei MediaPad M5

Huawei MediaPad M5

Average User Rating: 4.5 Stars

Price: $259.99

YouTube Review:

(this is an independent Youtube review and does not represent our views in any way)

Huawei have been around for just over 3 decades, but it’s only been since 2004 that they broke into handheld, portable technology. Unfortunately the original M5 is no longer sold as new, but sold used by a Huawei Authorised Retailer. The good news is that the used version is a lot more budget-friendly than you’d think given the specs, at just shy of $260.00. Tablets with similar specs usually cost in excess of $300 even used, so this is definitely a great bargain.

The MediaPad M5 is a very slim, stunning and immersive device. The immersive experience offered comes from both amazing graphics and high quality audio through the tablet speakers. It’s not a surprise that this tablet is one of the best ways to enjoy streamed content for those among us who value high fidelity audio just as much as crisp, clean and contrasted graphics.

Specs:

Below is a basic specifications guide that includes some key info.

Display:

  • Pixel Density: 280ppi
  • Screen Size) 8.4 inches
  • (Display) 2K

Camera info:

  • 13MP
  • HDR & Panoramic
  • Video: 1080p @ 30fps
  • Camera Sample:
Huawei MediaPad M5 camera sample

App Performance/CPU/GPU/Benchmark:

  • Kirin 960s Processor
  • Octa-core, 2mb cache

Battery rating/ charging time/draining time:

  • 7500mAh
  • 2.9hrs battery life (Charging data obtained by HUAWEI laboratories. Charging tests are conducted at a 25 °C using the supplied charger and cable)
  • Fast charge enabled
  • Up to 1.5hrs battery life from a 30min charge time
  • Lithium-polymer battery

Aesthetics/colour/design/structure etc:

  • Metal body
  • Curved glass edges
  • Colour: space grey
  • 7.3mm thick
  • Weight: 498g

Features:

  • 2K display doubles the graphical performance of 1080p
  • 13MP rear camera is better than the majority of the tablet market to date
  • 5MP front camera is a rare feature, with the ability to take beautiful selfies
  • Between 10-12 hours of battery life
  • Ports USB Type-C
  • Harman Kardon speakers
  • ClariVu technology

The MediaPad M5 is a surprisingly good tablet for multitasking, low-end graphic design, social media browsing and much more. When playing games, it can handle the usual mobile games with ease, but when put up against high-end FPSs, it unfortunately drops a frustrating amount of frames, hampering gamer performance.

5. Lenovo Tab 4

Lenovo Tab 4

Average User Rating: 3 Stars

Price: $163.99

YouTube Review:

(this is an independent Youtube review and does not represent our views in any way)

Lenovo have been making tablets for quite a while, and the Lenovo Tab 4 10-inch provides decent performance at a budget-friendly price. It’s absolutely amazing just how cheap they are, especially given the wondrous performance that a 64-bit quad-core processor can provide for general use. The camera is nothing to shout from the rooftops, but it’s feasible for capturing family memories. It’s not meant to have the best specs in the world, it’s meant to provide bang for your buck and only charge a small buck.

Specs:

Below is a basic specifications guide that includes some key info.

Display:

  • Pixel Density: 149ppi
  • Screen Size: 10 inches
  • Display: 1200 x 800

Camera info:

  • Video: 1080p @ 30fps
  • Fixed focus front camera
  • Auto-focus rear camera
  • Camera Sample:
Lenovo Tab 4 camera sample

App Performance:

  • Chipset: Qualcomm MSM8917 Snapdragon 425
  • CPU: Quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53
  • GPU: Adreno 306

Battery:

  • Lithium-Polymer
  • 7000mHa battery
  • Fast battery charging capable
  • Up to 20hrs

Aesthetics:

  • Weight: 500g
  • 8.3mm thick
  • Plastic body
  • Colours: Slate black / Polar white

Features:

  • Android 7.1 Nougat
  • 20hrs battery life
  • 70% screen to body ratio
  • 10 point multi-touch screen
  • Dedicated secure children’s account
  • Light weight and slim
  • Built-in dual stereo front facing speakers

The improvements made to the tab 4 really does impress when it comes to general use. For internet browsing, emails, social media, office-use or running low-spec apps it’s great. The problems come when you try and play anything slightly resembling a console-ported game. PUBG mobile proves way too much for the Tab 4, so if you enjoy video games and are hoping to play them on-the-go, you’ll need a different option. Problems include lack of graphical clarity, low performance with intensive games and flimsy shell.

6. Google Pixel Slate Core i7

Google Pixel Slate Core i7

Average User Rating: 5 Stars

Price: $1,570.80

YouTube Review:

(this is an independent Youtube review and does not represent our views in any way)

When Google bring out a high-end device, they never disappoint when it comes to specs. The devices they bring out are also never cheap. The Core i7 is the version of the Pixel Slate with all the bells and whistles, and definitely deserves to be on the list of best android tablets because it really brings performance to a whole new level. With a CPU good enough to support 4k and a 3k resolution, you can imagine how much power it had to spare. Looking at the price-tag isn’t for the faint of heart however, with over $1500 being a big obstacle to obtaining one. Its 12.3 inch display is bigger and better than most, if not all android tablets on the market.

Specs:

Below is a basic specifications guide that includes some key info.

Display:

  • Pixel Density: 293ppi
  • Screen Size: 12.3 inches
  • Display: 3K

  • Duo Cam (front) 8MP, ƒ/1.9 aperture, wide field of view
  • Rear camera 8MP, ƒ/1.8 aperture, Autofocus

  • Chrome OS
  • Dual front facing speakers
  • Multi-tasking tools (split screen, multi window browsing and calibration apps
  • Automatic updates in the background
  • Duo Cam wide angle camera lens
  • Built in Google assistant

The Pixel Slate i7 is the type of tablet that dreams are made of. It’s got everything you could want as far as performance is concerned, and is capable of running even the most intensive apps and games that can be found on the android platform with relative ease. Looking at the amazing display is hypnotic in its own right, with the molecular screen being a point of pride for the Pixel Slate. There are cheaper versions of the Pixel Slate with lower specs if the price-tag is simply too eye-watering, but you can expect high levels of quality regardless of the options chosen for your Pixel Slate.

7. Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro (With Projector)

Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro With Projector

Average User Rating: 4.5 Stars

Price: $405.97

YouTube Review:

(this is an independent Youtube review and does not represent our views in any way)

The Yoga Tab 3 Pro has some absolutely awesome features that make it truly unique. To start with, if you’re ever in need of a projector with a rotating head that can display up to 70 inches, then you’re looking at the right product. In addition the battery size of 18 hours is somewhat heroic, especially during travel where binging on entertainment is your only option to escape boredom. The multi-modal kickstand enables the user to view from one of 4 unique angles.

In other good news, it’s also splash-proof. You may not think that’s an essential quality in a tablet, and why would you? That is, until you spill a drink on it and wish you’d bought insurance to cover accidental damage. With voice control, projection of up to 70 inches, solid 2K resolution, and 4 speakers, this thing is a cinematic dream.

  • Android 5.0 Pie

  • Android 9.0 (pie)
  • Magnetic S-pen
  • Samsung DeX

As per usual, Samsung have come out with a quality tablet that can accomplish most tasks you’d expect to be able to complete on a tablet. Being able to expand the internal storage by up to half a terabyte will keep you satisfied and able to make better use of the download and watch later functions available to both Prime Video and Netflix customers. The 8MP rear camera is somewhere between mid-range and top-shelf, but far from the highest on the market. With 8 cores to complete processes at a startling speed, it shouldn’t have too much of a problem with a bit of multitasking, which is always useful.

9. Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro

Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro

Average User Rating: 5 Stars

Price: $389.00

YouTube Review:

(this is an independent Youtube review and does not represent our views in any way)

Unlike the original Mediapad M5, the pro is 10.8 inches, which for those among us with smaller hands could see a less ideal fit than the original M5. Based on 3D benchmark testing, the original scores slightly better but neither has a massive advantage. The resolution is the same at 2500x1600, with a slightly improved CPU, far superior battery life and much better sound. Another big selling point for the M5 Pro over the original would be that the M-Pen is included. Buying used from a Huawei Authorised Retailer will set you back $389.00, but it’s definitely worth it for the performance offered.

Specs:

Below is a basic specifications guide that includes some key info.

Display:

  • Pixel Density: 280ppi

  • Display: 2K

Camera info:

  • Colours: Space Grey / Champagne Gold

M-Pen:

  • 4,096 pressure levels
  • Tilt recognition
  • Writing to text conversion technology

Features

  • Quick Charge Facility – 7500mAh battery charges fully in only 2.9hrs
  • Smart User Interface – EMUI 8.0 with advanced fingerprint detection
  • Super Sound – Richer, layered, 3D sound from the Harman certified quad stereo speakers
  • Sleek, Clean design – Elegant, curved and metal in shape
  • 2.5D Curved Display – 82% screen to body ratio with edge to edge curved glass screen
  • 76.1% screen to body ratio

Considering it takes just shy of 3 hours to charge a massive battery with enough life to keep you entertained all day long, it’s a small price to pay. The 2.5D Curved Display adds a brilliant element of value to watching content on Netflix and Prime Video. The addition of 3 megapixels to make a total of 8MP for the front camera will add that extra clarity to your selfies which is beneficial for social media users. The sound is also surprisingly great, so music lovers will adore this too. This is perfect for graphic designers, with the M-Pen being a wonderful tool for designers wanting to use freehand drawing as part of their design process.

Final Thoughts

When deciding which one of these tablets to buy, there are two things that matter most. The first is your budget, because if it’s not in your budget it’s not accessible. The second is the type of things you want to use a tablet for.

Budget-Friendly, Low Performance – For those of you who are looking for a tablet for general use and don’t want to spend much on it, then the Lenovo Tab 4 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab A will be your main choices, with the Asus Zenpad 3S being a slightly more expensive option.

Mid-Range, Great Performance – If you’re looking for some great performance and can afford to spring for the mid-range tablets, then you have a couple of options. The best mid-range offering will either be the Huawei Mediapad M5 Pro or the Samsung S5e depending on spec preferences.

High-End, Exceptional Performance – In the unlikely event that you have the money to spend on the best of the best when it comes to tablets on the market right now, then the obvious choice is the Google Pixel Slate Core i7. If you’re a media lover looking for something high-end but not exceedingly expensive, then the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro with Project is an awesome choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the most powerful Android tablet?

A: The Google Pixel Slate Core i7 has the most power in the majority of aspects.

Q: What should I look for when buying a tablet?

A: Write down what you need from a tablet first. When you know what you need, you’ll know what features are absolutely essential in any tablet you’re looking at buying.

Q: Is it worth buying a tablet?

A: In short, it depends. Tablets are bigger than smartphones but have more performance potential, whereas tablets are smaller than laptops and have less performance potential. A tablet is the bridge between the two. If you spend a lot of time in situations where a tablet could prove useful, then it’s worth getting one. If you already have a laptop and don’t feel like you could benefit from a smaller platform with similar or better resolution to watch videos, use social media and access your emails from, then you probably don’t need one.
