Our Research Process

As a company, our entire goal is to provide guidance. We want to guide our readers towards the best products and services that would excite them and make their lives better. The best products and services are the only ones we want our readers to use.

As a team, we understand the level of responsibility that comes with the task of telling people what they should bring into their home and use around their loved ones. This is why we refuse to take shortcuts and ensure that our review process is the best it can possibly be.

When eHomeUpgrade was just starting out our team decided that making money was second to ensuring that each reader was given the best advice and was provided with accurate information. This has stayed 100% true as our team has grown.

We don’t pretend that our opinion is gospel. Before purchasing any product or service, it is a good idea to do your due diligence. Our opinion may not line up with others but we promise that every time an opinion is given it is 100% true to our team and from the bottom of our hearts.

If at any time anyone disagrees with our opinions, we would love to hear why.

How We Research

At EHU, we have a number of ways to ensure that our readers have access to the most important information in the easiest to digest format. We don’t physically test everything ourselves BUT we do aggregate all the information and do the analysis for you.

We always try to cover features, ease of use, design, performance, and value. Depending on the product or service, we might cover a handful of other categories as well.

No matter how we go about gathering our information, we always ensure to verify any findings through multiple sources. We aggregate and analyze the most important information so you don’t have to.

Here are the five ways we conduct research:

  • Buy and Test Products

A lot of the time, we test out products how most people would test out products. We buy them and then put them to use.

As a group, we like to be first in line to try out new products that interest us, like a new Ninja blender. That means that we’re preordering products, buying them off Amazon, and walking into normal retailers to purchase the new hot thing.

We have a shared list of products and services written out that details which products we would like to get their hands on next. Normally, we just move down that list, one product or service at a time. The only exception is if something starts to take the world by storm. At that point, we usually move it up the list.

If there is something specific you would like us to buy and review, we would love to hear from you.

  • Read Third-Party Reviews

Many times when products are released, different publications will review them. In one review they may cover one specific feature at length and in another they may just talk about how easy a product is to use. At EHU, we want to give you the most important information so you can make an effortless purchase decision.

We read a lot of reviews from third-parties and we glean as much information as we can from them. We gather all of the information available and then prune the unimportant aspects while expanding on the most important.

There’s nothing more annoying than reading through ten different reviews trying to find that one feature you’re interested in. We do that part for you.

  • Ask People Who Own the Product

EHU has a network of avid home product enthusiasts who are usually the first in line to try out new products and services. We ask our network of homeowners directly about various aspects of the products and services they are using.

We’re always looking for more first-hand testers with valuable information.

  • Amazon

Amazon is one of our favorite places to do some digging. Amazon is made up of thousands of third-party sellers who buy products from manufacturers and resell them on the marketplace. They all make their own content and we scour the various sellers to glean as much information as we can from their videos and copy.

We trudge through the sometimes thousands of reviews left for various products to get as much information as we can. Is there one person complaining about a faulty button or are there dozens?

  • Videos

There are many product reviewers on YouTube. Watching hours of automatic whisk content isn’t exactly exciting for the average shopper so we take that time off of your hands. We compare the various review videos and cross-reference them with our other research methods to ensure we’re compiling important and relevant information. These videos are also extremely helpful when it comes to turning up aspects of a product that are not mentioned frequently.

We sometimes use all five of our methods just to review one product while other times we may only turn to a few outlined above. It all depends on the product and service.

The EHU Difference

Each of our writers is referred to as a content wizard. The main reason we call them wizards rather than writers is because they do much more than write. They are also full-time researchers, which we like to say takes some wizardry. We don’t want any of them writing about something they have no idea about.

In some cases, we test products for days or weeks. We’ve even been known to test services out for months and one of our writers, Carl, has even taken a year to feel like he fully tested a product. We don’t have a secret lab tucked away in the mountains, we are using these products in our own homes.

The great thing about using these products in our own homes is that the good ones usually find a permanent spot there. Some products and services get worse over time for various reasons and we usually experience that in a very real way. If for some reason we don’t see that occurring, we always keep our ears out to ensure that we can review a product if it has slipped in quality.

The same holds true with bad products that are experiencing a quality renaissance. We are always looking to retest products and services. It’s always a good idea to note the date at the top of our review. If you want an updated review, just send us a message and let us know. We will move it up to the top of our review queue.

When products aren’t tested first hand, we make sure to find someone in our network who is using it so we can keep a pulse on how it’s holding up.

How We Make Money

We need a way to turn the time your eyeballs spent reading one of our articles into a process for us to make money. After all, we have a full-time staff that needs to eat.

Running a website isn’t free. Websites have a whole host of costs, especially ones with high traffic. The way we create revenue is through affiliate links. If you click a link on our website and it takes you to a store, we receive a small commission for any purchase you make.

That means that if you don’t want us to make any money, you can open a new tab and search for the product yourself. If you want to support us, the best way to do it is by purchasing a product through a link on our page.

We monetize eHomeUpgrade this way to ensure our readers have the best experience possible. We don’t want to bombard anyone with ads.
