Launch Event for Windows 8 Set

The beta version of Windows 8 will be previewed at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 29th.  Microsoft did not provide any further details of its plans. It did mention that there would also be an event in the US, but the details of this event will be released later.

The event will be held separately from the conference area of the Mobile World Congress.  Microsoft has decided to hold the event in a hotel from 3pm to 5pm.  The Mobile World Congress runs from February 27th to March 1st.

Microsoft also announced they it would open the Windows Store at the same time that the Windows 8 preview occurs.  There is no release date for when the shipments will occur for the Windows 8 version, but experts expect it to occur sometime in 2012.  What the company is waiting on is the test version.  If there are no problems found in the next few months, the official release will be offered.

Microsoft did state that it will not duplicate the timetable it had for Windows Vista, meaning that it would not miss the holiday season.  Vista missed 2006’s holiday season by shipping it after 2007.  Microsoft does not want to make the same mistake again and Windows 8 is expected to be available for full sale before the holiday season.
