Best Buy Launches the TiVo-powered Insignia Connected TV

Looks like Best Buy might have a winner on their hands. Best Buy just took the wraps off its Insignia Connected TV, which brings all the goodness of TiVo — sans DVR functionality and universal search — with a sprinkling of Chumby apps. According to Best Buy’s VP of Product Management, the company decided to go with the store’s best selling TV sizes, 32 ($499) and 42-inches ($699), for its initial launch. What’s more, Best Buy made the TVs intelligent enough to auto-update their firmware and apps without prompting users for action. Smart move! Supported platform and partner apps at launch include: Netflix, CinemaNow, YouTube, Pandora, Napster, Twitter, Facebook, and Photobucket. Of course, many more widget-style apps are available for the picking through Chumby. Lets just say the Insignia Connected TV is smart enough to please the general public, but falls short of being a true “Smart TV”. Additional details and UI pics here and here (photo of the remote).
