Logitech Revue with Google TV Reduced to $99

Wow, talk about a steep fall. Logitech has taken a hit financially the past couple quarters and have seen fit to reduce the price of their Logitech Revue with Google TV from $249 when it launched to $99. “The action was taken with the goal of accelerating adoption of the Google TV platform by removing price as a barrier to broad consumer acceptance,” says Logitech. Ok, whatever you say. It seems Google really let down their partners and hung them out to dry. Google TV had great potential when it was first unveiled and subsequently launched, but Google’s lack of updates and improvements and telling partners to hold off over the last several months has people looking elsewhere and not taking the platform seriously anymore. Unfortunately, Logitech’s big bet on Google TV cost them dearly. Logitech’s CEO (seen in the video below) just stepped down — no doubt, in part, for his decision to back Google TV. [via]

Aside: Google TV may be down, but it’s not dead. Google promised new devices by the end of this year. If they don’t deliver, then, yeah, it’s lights out.

UPDATE – 7/31/11: The Logitech Revue is officially marked down and available for sale @ $99.99. A Logitech PR rep. tells us: “When Google TV version 2 goes live, all new and existing Logitech Revue users will automatically receive the update, built on Android 3.1.” ETA: later this Summer.
