Roku Comes Through, Adds 1080p Support to Older HD-XR Model

Good news for the folks who bought their Roku HD-XR Player earlier this year (the HD-XR has since been replaced by the company’s new HD, XD, XD|S line). Roku has officially rolled out a new firmware update (as promised back in August) that boosts HD video playback on that device from 720p to 1080p. The new 2.9 b1509 firmware update also brings some refinements to Roku players in general like Hulu optimizations for smoother playback/navigation and support for displaying images whose dimensions are larger than 1280×720. The full list of improvements and bug fixes can be viewed here. [via]
