PLEX Client for Apple TV Makes an Informal Appearance

It appears that a PLEX forum member named quiqueck has ported a rough version of the PLEX client to a jailbroken 2nd generation Apple TV for use as a front-end to a PLEX media server running on your Mac (and soon Windows PC). As of right now, however, only video playback works and there seems to be various issues with screen refreshes and file playback. But if that doesn’t dissuade you in to waiting for a more stable release, you can follow these instructions to setup your own PLEX toting Apple TV.

Aside: Apple TV runs Debian / Linux? Example commands used via SSH to hack PLEX onto Apple TV…

echo "deb ./" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
echo "deb ./downloads/PLEX/" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plex.list
apt-get update
apt-get install plex-client-plugin
killall Lowtide
