Western Digital Intros the WD Elements Play Multimedia HDD Player

Looking for a no-frills, high-impact multimedia player for your HDTV? Have a look at Western Digital’s new WD Elements Play. Unlike the popular WD TV Live Plus, WD Elements Play offers no network connectivity or online media streaming capabilities, but does, however, boast an impressive 1TB / 2TB hard drive built-in and shares the same media player interface. The device is designed to do one thing well: play an assortment of multimedia files on your HDTV. In fact, it does it via HDMI in 1080p with DTS 2.0 digital audio. WD Elements Play includes support for all the popular file formats/codecs one would expect, like MKV, H.264, RMVB, VOB/ISO, etc., and provides DVD navigation for your ripped movies — complete with menu navigation, chapter listings, special features, and subtitles. Files can be transferred to the device via USB 2.0 or accessed using the same port for instant playback. [spec sheet]
